Will unemployment in South Africa grow in Q3 in comparison to Q2?
Market Rules
On August 24, 2021, the Department of Statistics of South Africa announced that the country’s expanded unemployment rate (including discouraged people) had reached 44.4% in the second quarter of 2021. South Africa’s unemployment rate has remained above 20% for at least two decades, but the recent figures are the highest since 2008 (when the current jobless counting method was adopted).
If the expanded unemployment rate in South Africa in the third quarter of 2021 exceeds 44.4%, this market will be resolved as “Yes”.
This market will be resolved according to the figures published in South Africa’s Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) for the third quarter (expanded definition of unemployment), set to be published on November 30th, 2021, at http://www.statssa.gov.za/?page_id=1854&PPN=P0211&SCH=72944.
