Will OpenAI acquire Google Chrome by the end of 2025?
Market Rules
This market aims to predict whether, at any moment up to 23:59 (UTC-5) on 31 December 2025, OpenAI or Alphabet Inc. (Google) will release an official announcement stating that OpenAI has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire ownership or operational control of the Google Chrome browser business. “Acquire” is here defined as any signed purchase, merger, or asset-transfer agreement that gives OpenAI majority ownership or effective control of Chrome’s code-base, trademarks, and primary development team—even if Alphabet retains a minority stake.
The resolution of this market will rely primarily on press releases posted on the official websites or investor-relations pages of OpenAI or Alphabet/Google, and on regulatory filings (e.g., Form 8-K) submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. However, credible news outlets may also be used as secondary sources.
Letters of intent, media rumors, or negotiations without a binding, publicly released agreement do not trigger a “Yes” resolution. A definitive agreement counts even if the deal has not yet closed or is awaiting regulatory approval. If no qualifying announcement is published by the cutoff, the market resolves “No.”
