Will the bill for criminalizing praises to communism be voted by the Brazilian Congress in 2020?

Market Rules

In September, 2020, Brazilian representative Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP) proposed a bill that, among other measures, criminalizes any kind of praise to communism, in a way that considers it as serious as praising nazism, which is already a crime in Brazil.

The text of the bill (PL 4425/2020) intends to prohibit “any reference” to communism and nazism, such as “people, organizations, events or dates that symbolize communism or nazism in the names of streets, highways, squares, bridges, buildings or installations of public spaces ”. The bill also establishes a period of twelve months for the federal, state and municipal administrations to change the names of public spaces that evoke references to communism or nazism, in case the bill is approved.

If, by the end of the 2020 legislative year, the 4425/2020 bill is voted in the Brazilian House of Representatives or Senate - regardless of whether it is approved or rejected - this market will be resolved as "Yes".
