Will Guilherme Boulos run for president in 2022?
Market Rules
In early March 2021, Brazil's Supreme Court justice Edson Fachin annulled all the convictions imposed by the Federal Justice of Paraná on former President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Operation Car Wash. With the decision, Lula recovered his political rights and became eligible again.
That decision shook the negotiations for the formation of a so-called "broad front" of left-wing parties for the 2022 presidential elections in Brazil. There is, therefore, still much doubt about the possibility that some parties could give up on launching their own candidates in favor of unifying their efforts behind a single front.
Despite standing out in the debates in 2018, Guilherme Boulos - who was then the presidential candidate of Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL) - had the lowest rate of votes for a candidate from PSOL since Plínio de Arruda Sampaio's run in 2010. Nonetheless, in 2020 he managed to go to the second round of voting in the elections for the mayor of São Paulo.
If Guilherme Boulos officially registers to run for President in the Brazilian elections of 2022 - regardless of the party for which he does so - this market will be resolved as "Yes".
