When will Ethereum deploy the Proof-of-Stake mechanism?

Market Rules

The Ethereum network relies on interactive procedures that allow its decentralized parts to securely reach consensus. As of April 2021, these digital contracts are powered by the proof-of-work (PoW) algorithm, but the Ethereum blockchain should eventually shift to a more complex model of consensus mechanism called proof-of-stake (PoS), which should bring changes to the network, including to Ether mining and transactions.

Though the transition from PoW to PoS is expected and planned by developers, the effective pace of this change is not yet precisely known. The PoS mechanism will likely be launched first in a parallel blockchain (“Beacon Chain”), which should bring in other big architectural changes and gradually absorb the existing Ethereum network.

The alternative that matches the time range in which the Ethereum network transitions from the PoW to PoS mechanism and enables transactions under the new rules will be considered the winning outcome for this market.
