Manchester City to receive sports-related punishment for breaching Premier League's financial rules?

Market Rules

In February 2023, Manchester City was charged by the Premier League over 115 alleged breaches of the league's financial rules. The hearings – which are carried out by an independent commission – have begun, and the verdict is expected to come out at some point after March 2025, with possible appeals through the end of 2025. If the team is found guilty, possible punishments range from fines and other administrative measures, all the way to losing points or being banned from the Premier League.

If at the end of the trial (including appeals) Manchester City is found guilty and receives direct sports-related punishments, such as (but not limited to) point deductions, relegation to a lower division, loss of previously won titles, bans or disqualifications from upcoming competitions, or other similar measures that directly affect the club's sports performance, this market will resolve as 'Yes.' Measures of a purely financial or administrative nature — such as fines, payment of court costs, a ban on playing matches with spectators, restrictions on signing new players, or other measures that only indirectly affect the club's sports performance — will not be considered sports-related punishments for the purposes of this market.

If the penalties imposed on the club do not fit any of the examples mentioned above, Futuur will assess whether the penalties actually imposed qualify as sports-related punishment or not.
