Will a coronavirus vaccine be developed by the end of June 2020?
Market Rules
A few days after the first case of coronavirus infection was registered in China, researchers in the country had already sequenced the virus's genome and shared it with the rest of the world. With genetic code in hand, several laboratories around the world started working together and scientists hope to test a vaccine in humans within three months from the beginning of their collaboration. Their goal is that in June, if there are no setbacks, a vaccine could be distributed to human.
To approve any medication, clinical tests need to prove safety and effectiveness. Clinical research has some initial phases where the drug is tested on healthy people to assess safety (phase I) and another where people with the disease use it to have information on efficacy and dosages (phase II). Only after success in phases I and II, does phase III begin, where large multicenter studies follow thousands of patients with the disease.
If, by June 30, 2020, a safe and effective vaccine against coronavirus (which was approved in phase III) starts being distributed to humans, even if experimentally, this question will be resolved as "yes".
