Will Brazil perform population research to determine herd immunity against COVID-19?
Market Rules
Herd immunity is an immunological effect of when the majority of a population is immune to a disease (either by vaccination or by getting sick), and that prevents the disease from spreading.Immunity against the SARS-CoV-2 is not well established yet, but the acquisition of herd immunity would be a valuable asset to stop the pandemic and help governments decide when it is safe to pull out from social isolation.
A group of Brazilian researchers from the Pelotas Federal University is organizing a major research to evaluate the herd immunity against COVID-19 in the whole country. As of April, 2020, they already had financial support to conduct it, but still needed to perform some small pilot tests to access if the investigation will work.
If by June 30, 2020, a research with the goal of evaluating herd immunity against Covid-19 is conducted in Brazil by simultaneously sampling subjects from all 5 regions of the country, this question will be resolved as "Yes".
