Will China economically retaliate against US-imposed sanctions on Huawei by May of 2021?
Market Rules
In May of 2020, US President Donald Trump extended the duration of the executive order that prohibited Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE from doing business with companies in the United States. The sanctions are meant to remain in effect for another full year (until May 2021), during which the affected companies will remain unable to close new agreements with the likes of Google, Microsoft, Intel, and Qualcomm (processors and components), among others.
On the face of that, there are reports that China could be considering some kind of retaliation, in the form of "a series of countermeasures" against the United States, which could range from product banning to closing negotiations, as well as complications for the maintenance of the agreements that are already in effect with companies based in the country.
If by May 31, 2021, China imposes any kind of economic sanctions against the US that is openly and deliberately destined to retaliate against the extension of Donald Trump's executive order that affected Huawei and ZTE, this market will be resolved as "Yes".
