Will Lukashenko still be Belarus’ President by the end of 2020?
Market Rules
Alexander Lukashenko has been in office as President of Belarus since 1994 and was elected for his sixth term in August of 2020. However, shortly after to elections, unprecedented popular protests and international scrutinizers have thrown into question the freedom and fairness of the electoral process. Many of them don’t recognize its results and demand a new election.
If Alexander Lukashenko remains in office as President of Belarus by December 31st, 2020, this market will be resolved as “Yes”. That may happen even in case he eventually loses an election, as long as the winner is not sworn in by the end of the year.
