Technique for reanimating coma patients using ultrasound: approved by the end of 2025?
Market Rules
A team of scientists from the University of California performed a procedure on patients with severe brain injuries who had long been in a coma. The technique is based on low-intensity ultrasound, which uses sonic stimulation to stimulate neurons.
Chronic patients - that is, in a coma for a long time - are much less likely to recover spontaneously. Some of the patients who were treated with the technique, however, exhibited significant responses a few days after the intervention. Despite scientists being excited about the results, they emphasize that the technique is still experimental and further studies are needed.
If the ultrasound-based technique for reanimating coma patients is approved by the end of 2025 by one of the following regulatory health agencies, this market will be resolved as "Yes": ANVISA (Brazil), FDA (USA), EMA (European Union), MHRA (United Kingdom), NMPA (China) or PMDA (Japan).
