Will Jair Bolsonaro go to trial for crimes against humanity due to the misconduct of the pandemic in Brazil?
Market Rules
At the time this market was opened (April 2021) the outbreak of SARS-COV-2 in Brazil was still out of control. The country had the highest number of daily deaths in the world, with some specialists questioning whether the federal government’s approach to the Covid-19 pandemic was to try to achieve herd immunity through contagion.
According to the international criminal jurisprudence, the massive and systematic use of pressure to induce the public to behave a certain way that is harmful to their survival, according to a preconceived plan, which deploys considerable public and private means, may characterize an attack on the civilian population. In light of that, some say the federal government’s conduct may constitute a crime against humanity.
If by the end of his term in office President Jair Bolsonaro has to face a trial in any international court in which he is accused of crimes against humanity, this market will be resolved as "Yes", even if the trial is only finished after Mr. Bolsonaro has already left office.
