Will the return of party coalitions be approved in Brazil's Senate in time for the 2022 elections?
Market Rules
In August 2021, Brazil's House of Representatives approved a Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC 125/11) that can implement an electoral reform in the country. One of the most controversial topics in it was the return of the so-called party coalitions in proportional elections (for representatives and city councilors). The proposal can only apply to 2022's elections if it is approved by Brazil's Senate by October.
Following the approval of PEC 125/11 in the House of Representatives, Brazil's president of the Senate (Rodrigo Pacheco) stated that the electoral reform should initially be sent to the Committee on Constitution and Justice (CCJ), before moving on to the Senate's full vote/
If PEC 125/11 is approved in two rounds of voting by the Senate by the end of October 2021, and includes the return of party coalitions already in the 2022 elections, this market will be resolved as "Yes".
If the proposal is approved after October, it will have no consequences for the 2022 elections, which is why Futuur established October as the deadline for resolving this market as "Yes" or as "No".
