Researchers at several pharmaceutical companies have tried to develop an antiviral drug to treat covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. These kinds of drugs aim to disrupt the virus's ability to replicate in the human body, in a similar way to how the antivirals are used to fighting hepatitis C, herpes, and influenza.
By the time this market was opened in Futuur, three antiviral treatments against Covid-19 were undergoing clinical trials with promising performances. One of these drugs was created by Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, another one was created by Pfizer, and the third one was created by Roche and Atea Pharmaceuticals. If the results of the studies are positive, it's expected that at least one of these drugs might be approved for use before the end of 2022.
