Facebook to unwind the acquisition of Instagram or WhatsApp by the end of 2024?

Market Rules

A Federal Trade Commission (FTC) antitrust suit against Facebook argued that the company formed a monopoly in social networking, which was allegedly illegally maintained through the acquisition of rivals – including WhatsApp and Instagram.

The remedies proposed by the FTC’s suit for the alleged violations of Section 2 of the Sherman Act are to unwind Facebook’s acquisition of WhatsApp and Instagram and to prohibit its former policy of restraining access to its platform for companies competing with Facebook’s main functionalities.

If by December 31, 2024, Facebook announces that its acquisition of WhatsApp or Instagram will unwind, this market will resolve to “Yes”.
