US to improve its position in the 2026 Democracy Report ranking?

The Varieties of Democracy Research Project (V-Dem) is based in the University of Gothenburg and studies democracy and democratization of countries, combining different core principles of this type of regime (electoral, liberal, majoritarian, consensual, participatory, deliberative, egalitarian) into a single index.
This scholarly political science effort of the V-Dem Institute generates yearly Democracy Reports, accounting for the different levels of democratization worldwide. In the most recent reports, the United States appeared among the Liberal Democracies of the world, ranking at 24 in the V-Dem’s Liberal Democracy Index for 2025.
If the US’ position in the ranking by score in the 2026 Democracy Report from Institute V-Dem improves in comparison to its position in the same ranking from 2026, this market will resolve to “Yes”.
