Market Rules

In October, 2019, the Supreme Court of Brazil ruled that it is unconstitutional to imprison defendants who were convicted by an appellate court while they are still appealing to higher courts, except in a few specific case scenarios. Since then, several proposals have been brought forward in Congress - trying to change the law or the Constitution - in order to make such imprisonmnet legal.

A prominent option among those innitiatives is the Constitutional Amendment Project (PEC) 199/2019, which proposes to change articles 102 and 105 of the Constitution in order to achieve that goal.

If PEC 199/2019 is approved by both the Brazilian Senate and the Brazilian House of Representatives, and sancioned by the President by December 31, 2020, this market will be resolved as "Yes".
