Mobile phone with "balsa wood screen" launched by the end of 2025?

Scientists from the universities of Maryland and Colorado (United States) reported the creation of a transparent material based on treated balsa wood that can replace glass in virtually all of its current applications. The published article shows that the new material offers a thermal and luminous performance close to the resistance of glass, but is a thousand times more resistant. The article points to the use of the material in windows, as it does not shatter and would be able to maintain the internal temperature on cold days because of its high thermal conductivity.

On top of the suggested uses in the construction sector, the high strength of transparent wood could also offer interesting possibilities for use on a cell phone and tablet screens.

If by the end of 2025 any cell phone manufacturer announces the commercial launch (even if only for pre-orders) of a mobile phone or tablet using treated balsa wood in its screen, this market will be resolved as "yes".
