As of May 11th, 2020, no treatments for COVID-19 had been approved by any national or international health agency, but several were being tested worldwide. Due to the urgency required to find a treatment against the virus, scientists are testing several approaches at a time. One of such techniques is CRISPR-Cas9, a sort of "molecular scissors" capable of finding and literally cutting off undesirable DNA/RNA sequences.

A group of scientists from Stanford University proposes the use of CRISPR to find and eliminate the virus genome inside the patient's cells, stopping the virus reproduction and the progression of the disease. So far, the technique had only been tested in cell cultures.

If CRISPR-Cas9 is acknowledged by the scientific community as an effective treatment against COVID-19 in humans by December 31st, 2021, this question will be resolved as "Yes".
