Will the US start imposing conditions on its military aid to Israel by 2024?
Market Rules
The attitude of the US towards the development of conflicts between Palestinian groups and Israel Defense Forces in 2021 raised reproval from some countries, organizations, and American politicians. A group of Democratic lawmakers, in particular, pushed the idea of subjecting US military aid to Israel to human rights preserving conditions.
In April of 2021, Representative Betty McCollum introduced the “Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act” in the House of Representatives. If approved, the Act would prohibit Israel from using U.S. taxpayer dollars in the Occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem in activities such as violating human rights of Palestinian children, destroying Palestinian property, removing Palestinians from the occupied West Bank, or attempting to further annex Palestinian territory.
If Betty McCollum’s bill for imposing restrictions on the use of US military aid to Israel passes in the US Congress by December 31, 2023 - with or without changes -, this market will be resolved as “Yes”.
