Will the vaccine against Alzheimer's disease be considered effective by the end of 2022?
Market Rules
Researchers from Slovakia and Austria have published results of phase II clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness of a vaccine against Alzheimer's disease, which has been named AADvac1. The vaccine was designed to teach the immune system to identify harmful proteins and prevent them from building up. The clinical trial had participants from eight European countries and was placebo-controlled.
In the published study, the vaccine was shown to be safe and also to stimulate an immune response against specific fragments of a protein that is considered one of the causes of Alzheimer's disease. Participants who had already been diagnosed with Alzheimer's had the most beneficial effects of the entire study. However, further research will be needed to assess whether the vaccine stops and reverses the disease in a greater number of people.
If by the end of 2022, a phase III clinical trial indicates that the AADvac1 vaccine is indeed effective against Alzheimer's disease, this market will be resolve as “Yes”.
