UK reparations to Yemen for colonial crimes by the end of 2025?
Market Rules
In 2013, the government of the United Kingdom closed deals out of court to compensate 5,228 Kenyan citizens victimized by colonial crimes by British colonial officials during the clash period between the Mau Mau movement and the British Empire in Kenya.
Yemen’s territory was also partly occupied by British colonizers, between 1839 and 1967. During that period, the United Kingdom committed war crimes and other abuses, as when supporting military insurgencies in the decade 1960. The shifting order in the United Kingdom after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022, could change relations between the United Kingdom and its former colonies.
If between King Charles III's crowning and December 31st, 2025, the government of Yemen and Yemenite citizens are compensated by the United Kingdom’s government for abuses during the colonial rule period (1839-1967), and that compensation is made public, this market will resolve to “Yes”.
