Will the Mercosur-EU Agreement be ratified by the European Parliament before its next election?
Market Rules
Mercosur and the European Union finished negotiations on a free trade agreement in 2019, after 20 years of talks. Since then, the agreement has been put through a ratification phase within each signing country and bloc.
France, Austria, and other European countries have opposed the deal’s approval, which has to pass in the European Parliament to come into effect. The European Parliament’s next election is scheduled for June 6 to 9, 2024, and the reconfiguration of lawmakers could present more obstacles to the ratification process.
If the European Parliament formally ratifies the Mercosur-European Union agreement by June 6th, 2024, then this market will be resolved as “Yes”. Official announcements, publications, or news sources that Futuur deems credible will be taken into account for the resolution of this market.
Temporary or conditional approvals of the deal will not be considered as ratification for the sake of resolving this market. If the election of the European Parliament is rescheduled, the deadline to place bets in this market will be adjusted accordingly.
