Chinese government to choose the next Dalai Lama by the end of 2024?
Market Rules
Dalai Lama is the spiritual authority of the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, and the former head of the Central Tibetan Administration (located in India). The 14th Dalai Lama turns 86 in 2021 and has been exiled in India since 1959 due to political persecution in Tibet, which is currently considered an autonomous region under Chinese rule.
Traditionally, the Dalai Lama is a person regarded by high monks as the reincarnation of a past Dalai Lama. Despite that, the Chinese government reserved itself the right to determine the approval of all high monks, including the selection of the Dalai Lama, and has reiterated this position from time to time.
If the Chinese government nominates the 15th Dalai Lama by December 31st, 2024, this market will be resolved as “Yes”.
