Will Brazil's Congress pass limited-duration terms for STF justices in 2025?

Market Rules

In November 2023, the President of Brazil's Federal Senate Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD) stated to the press that he intended to hold a vote in 2024 about the setting a fixed limit for the time a justice can serve in Brazil's Supreme Court, which would require an amendment to the Constitution.

This market aims to predict if, before the parliamentary recess of December 2025, the National Congress of Brazil will pass any legislation that sets a fixed term duration for justices in Brazil's Supreme Court (STF). If by the referred date Brazil's Congress passes a constitutional amendment to limit the term of STF justices to any set amount of time, this market will resolve to “Yes”.

If term limits are set for future justices only, not affecting current justices, this will still constitute a 'Yes' resolution.
