Will the polio vaccine coverage goal be reached in Brazil in 2020?
Market Rules
Brazil has been free of polio since the 1980s, having registered the last case of the disease in 1989, and received the "polio-free" certificate in 1994. However, polio has not been eradicated from the World yet, and to keep countries safe the government needs to assure at least 95% of kids are vaccinated each year to prevent the virus from circulating again coming from other countries.
According to the Health Ministry, some Brazilian cities registered less than 50% of vaccine coverage in 2019, putting the country in red alert for the return of the virus. Campaigns are being intensified to raise awareness among parents about the risks of not vaccinating and to attempt to meet the coverage goal.
If, by December 2020, the polio vaccine coverage reaches at least 95% in the whole country this question will be resolved as "yes".
