When will Xi Jinping leave the office of General Secretary of the CCP?

Market Rules

In November 2012, Xi Jinping took office as General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Later on, in 2017, he began his second term in office, with a duration of 5 years, and no limits to the number of times it can be renewed. Holders of this office also hold other political functions in the country, such as the Presidency (head of state).

In 2018, the consecutive two-term limit to be in charge of China’s Presidency was abolished. When considered in context with other changes, this maneuver might indicate that Xi Jinping could attempt to perpetuate his power both as head of the CCP and as the leader of China beyond.

The alternative containing the year in which Xi Jinping effectively leaves the office of General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party will be considered the winning outcome of this market. If Xi Jinping does not leave office by December 31, 2025, the market will be resolved as "2026 or later".

Eventual changes in the office of President of China or other offices currently held by Xi Jinping will not be considered for the resolution of this market.
