Deforested area in Brazil's Amazon to grow in 2024?

Market Rules

The Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) has a robust Satellite Legal Amazon Deforestation Monitoring Project (PRODES, in the Portuguese abbreviation), considered the most precise system to measure annual deforestation rates.

In November 2023, estimates from PRODES pointed to an 22% decrease in deforestation rates in the Brazilian Amazon in comparison with the figures from 2022.

If the first PRODES estimate for 2024 (expected to be released in November 2024) indicates that the total deforested area in the Amazon grew in comparison to the area that was deforested in 2023, this market will resolve to "Larger". If the PRODES estimate indicates that the total deforested area in the Amazon in 2024 decreased in comparison to the figures from 2023, this market will resolve to "Smaller".
