Will humans land on Mars by the end of 2024?

Market Rules

Elon Musk's SpaceX has a very defined goal since its conception: taking humans to Mars. Musk assures that they will be able to land humans on the red planet by 2024, but he is not the only one with plans for that.

Due to planetary alignment in the inner Solar System, Mars launches are typically limited to a window of approximately every 26 months. The trip usually takes 9 months, but Musk says he can do it in 6 months. That means that if the launch takes place in early 2024, humans aboard the ship would land on Mars before the year ends.

If any spaceship - regardless of the company, consortium, or state agency is responsible for its mission - lands on Mars with live humans aboard at any point before December 31, 2024, this market will be resolved as "Yes".

  • trusteebetter: NASA has predicted to land humans on Mars not before 2040s or 50s. Musk claims to achieve this latest by 2029. However, two emerging private companies competition to SpaceX -- Relativity Space and Impulse Space aim higher and are working towards landing live humans on Mars by the end of 2024. In my opinion these claims are a tad bit lofty and we may not step foot on Mars well before the next decade. On the other hand just thinking of how we went to the moon with the then-technology and in "those" primitive times makes me a devil's advocate. We might just do it, you know.
  • t0442720: We ain't going to land on mars and colonise it this half of the century! Forget about next year.
  • mauropunk67: Não acho impossível. Como tudo na vida, uma série de acontecimentos tem que ter sincronia pra tudo dar certo. . Aposto que SIM

  • mprezende123: I believe it is indeed possible, even more so with the technology already being tested by Elon Musk, but setting a next year, in this case 2024, I think it's early after all failures can happen and take months to recover. My bet would be somewhere around 2040 to 2050 for man to land on Mars
