The Varieties of Democracy Research Project (V-Dem) is based in the University of Gothenburg and studies democracy and democratization of countries, combining different core principles of this type of regime (electoral, liberal, majoritarian, consensual, participatory, deliberative, egalitarian) into a single index.
This scholarly political science effort of the V-Dem Institute generates yearly Democracy Reports, accounting for the different levels of democratization worldwide. In the most recent reports, India falls among the Electoral Autocracies of the world, ranking at 97 in the V-Dem’s Liberal Democracy Index for 2023.
If India’s position in the ranking by score in the 2024 Democracy Report from Insitute V-Dem improves in comparison to its position in the same ranking from 2023, this market will resolve to “Yes”.
