Venezuela to deploy troops to Essequibo in 2025?
Market Rules
On December 5th, 2023, Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro made public a version of his country’s map with the territory of Essequibo incorporated. The formal (but not de facto) annexation of his territory that belongs to Guyana and has been claimed by Venezuela for years follows a referendum that ratifies a unilateral expansionist policy.
This market aims to predict if Venezuela’s government will deploy conventional military or special operations troops to the Guyanese territory of Essequibo by December 31st, 2025. The market will resolve to “Yes” if it becomes clear that Venezuelan forces were mobilized beyond the border between Venezuela and Guiana by the referred date.
Official statements by Venezuela, Guyana, the United Nations, and other relevant parts, as well as reports from credible news outlets, will be considered as sources to determine this market’s resolution.
Only publicly acknowledged deployments will be considered for resolution. Covert or unacknowledged operations will not be taken into account
