The Taal Volcano, located at the Luzon island in the Philippines, has erupted about 30 times since the 16th century, including 4 major events, with the devastation of the island. Scientists now fear another major eruption might be in course, as the volcano is spewing ash and steam since January 12th, 2020. Seismic activity at the island remains high, with hundreds of earthquakes per day, including the so-called harmonic earthquakes – a type of rhythmic tremor often preceding volcanic eruptions.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced from their homes and taken to shelters, along with their livestock. Scientists now fear that a complete eruption (with lava) is imminent and can potentially last for days.
