What kind of solution will be presented by the winner of the Carbon Removal X Prize?
Market Rules
The Carbon Removal X Prize competition is a contest created by Peter Diamandis and supported by Elon Musk to encourage the development of technologies to help prevent the worst effects of climate change. The competition challenges stakeholders to demonstrate sustainable and scalable ways to remove large amounts of carbon dioxide from the air or the oceans over the next years, and the winners will be announced on April 22, 2025.
The rules for applying to the Prize do not pose any limitations on the strategies or technologies used by candidates in their projects. Nonetheless, the winning solution will likely fall under one of the following three categories: natural solutions (involving, for example, reforestation, recycling, ocean management, etc.), mechanical solutions (involving some equipment that removes or converts carbon in the atmosphere) or hybrid solutions (involving both technologies).
Once the winning project of the Carbon Removal X Prize is announced, Futuur will determine if the proposed solution is better described as natural, mechanical, or hybrid.
