Will the Brazilian Amazon deforested area in 2023 be larger or smaller than in 2022?
Market Rules
The Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) has a robust Satellite Legal Amazon Deforestation Monitoring Project (PRODES, in the Portuguese abbreviation), considered the most precise system to measure annual deforestation rates.
In November 2022, estimates from PRODES pointed to an 11% decrease in deforestation rates in the Brazilian Amazon in comparison with the figures from 2021.
If the first PRODES estimate for 2023 (expected to be released in November 2023) indicates that the total deforested area in the Amazon grew in comparison to the figures from 2022, this market will resolve to "Larger". If the PRODES estimate indicates that the total deforested area in the Amazon decreased in comparison to the figures from 2022, this market will resolve to "Smaller".
