Restrictions on the use of the Traditional Latin Mass in the Catholic Church: loosened in 2026?

Market Rules

This market predicts whether the Catholic Church will officially loosen restrictions on the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass during calendar year 2026. If, between January 1, 2026 00:00:00 UTC and December 31, 2026 23:59:59 UTC, the Holy See issues a formally promulgated document (motu proprio, apostolic letter, decree, or instruction) that materially loosens any restriction on the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass (Mass according to the 1962 Roman Missal) compared to the regime established by Traditionis Custodes (July 16, 2021) and its subsequent implementing documents, this market will resolve to "Yes". Otherwise, it will resolve to "No".

The Primary Designated Source is the Holy See press office, the Acta Apostolicae Sedis, and the Dicastery for Divine Worship's official communications. Tightening of restrictions, mere reaffirmations of existing rules, or individual dispensations granted to specific bishops, parishes, or communities without altering the general regime do not count as loosening. Statements by individual cardinals, bishops, or commentators without formal promulgation by competent authority do not count.

The loosening must be material (e.g., relaxation of permissions required, expansion of where the Mass may be celebrated, restoration of previously restricted faculties). A consensus of credible reporting may confirm the official act. In ambiguous edge cases, resolution will follow the spirit of the question.
