Market Rules

This market predicts whether the headline count of marine species threatened with extinction reported in the 2027 edition of the Starfish Barometer, published by Mercator Ocean International, will reach 1,700 or more. The Starfish Barometer aggregates data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. If the 2027 edition of the Starfish Barometer reports at least 1,700 marine species in the threatened categories (Vulnerable, Endangered, or Critically Endangered) on the IUCN Red List, this market will resolve to "Yes". Otherwise, it will resolve to "No".

Resolution uses the first official figures published in the 2027 edition of the Starfish Barometer; subsequent updates or revisions do not affect resolution. The relevant figure is the one designated by Mercator Ocean International as the count of marine species threatened with extinction. Direct counts from the IUCN Red List outside the Starfish Barometer do not qualify.

The Primary Designated Source is the 2027 edition of the Starfish Barometer, published by Mercator Ocean International. The IUCN Red List is the underlying dataset and may be referenced for context, but the Starfish Barometer figure is determinative. A consensus of credible reporting (Reuters, AFP, BBC, New York Times) may be used to confirm the published figure.
